Nearly all of the Book of Mormon as published today was dictated between April 7 and June 30, 1829. Depending on how partial days are counted, historical reconstructions describe roughly 63–65 active working days—a matter of weeks for a narrative that spans centuries.

Emma also recalled that Joseph had “neither manuscript nor book to read from.” These are witness recollections; the working-day total is a historical estimate rather than a stopwatch measurement.
